Prior to the unveiling of The Embrace and the 1965 Freedom Plaza by artist Hank Willis Thomas and MASS Design Group honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, I partnered with MASS Design Group in the wayfinding design that allows visitors of all abilities to navigate the public memorial. We surveyed Blind community members and synthesized findings into actionable design improvements, developing early versions of signage and spearheading ongoing initiatives to improve accessibility in the city of Boston.
Martin, a typeface designed by Tré Seals commemorating the posters carried by protesters in the Memphis Sanitation Strike of 1968, is engraved into the stone plaza bearing a phrase attributed to Coretta Scott King.
